Biogen-IDEC

Project Type: Lab

Service: Advanced Coordination

Client: Biogen

Stats: 20,000 sf / $20 million / Year: 2016

**Work performed during employment at StructureTone

The project was a Renovation of office space to lab space. Prefix (then known as ACT) was part of the General Contractor’s team performing Advanced Coordination for the project.

“[The CM] was able to take more than a month off competing CMs schedules by incorporating their virtual construction expertise allowing off-site fabrication of many MEP assemblies that dramatically reduced field construction duration.

Structure Tone’s collaboration with our design team and leadership throughout the project was exemplary – they constructed a top quality lab, with no safety incidents – and delivered the project on schedule and on budget based on very early design documents.”

  - Project Manager, Biogen Idec

Advanced Coordination = Quantities during SDs

The original schedule was set at an aggressive 6 months.

The Prefix team was involved early in the design - delivering a model of the labs. This allowed the team to get a 90% accurate takeoff during SDs.

Smooth Buyout and Quick to Fabricate

Since the MEP’s were modeled and coordinated, trade buyout was quick, and they were able to move into fabrication almost immediately. The coordination around existing conditions utilized laser scanning to get a true picture of the space.

The project was completed in 4 ½ months, beating the initial 6-month schedule.
